Simulation: Promise the Moon

Guidebook

The attached documents are a partial reproduction of the manual for the agent-to-agent simulation program titled ‘Promise the Moon’. A Guidance Manager (GM) runs the agents through the simulation, allowing them to act as members of any of the moon factions to experience life and strife on the moon before deploying.

This reproduction is complete enough to enjoy science fiction roleplaying with 2 or more players. The game system is new, loosely based on the Forged in the Dark ruleset. Involve yourself with the political maneuverings of various factions of a moon colony originally started by the Apollo missions. Jump into an exosuit and take care of business.

The Problem

To analyze the impacts of the formation of government by citizens of the moon, the election of so-called President Kepler West, the myriad assassination plots against his life (not all ours), and other happenings that threaten the Troy Agency’s hold on Earth’s natural satellite.

Conclusions

A.  The developments in the past few years of Moon citizen sentiment to cast out “meddlers” from Earth in the affairs of moon life have increasingly pivoted to full independence efforts. This culminated in the recent push by organizers [“The Dukes”] to hold full elections and form a unified Moon government.

B. Troy Agents were able to sabotage enough Duke candidates to prevent a truly revolutionary cadre from taking power, which led to the election of the apparent ideologue Kepler West. West’s rhetoric pushing for a strong military presence on the moon presented its own set of problems.

C. Visits from Troy Agents to West as he set up his government successfully cooled some of the more dangerous militaristic ideas for the first year or so of Kepler’s regime. His pivot has stirred much discontent among his constituents.

D. Plans to assassinate West are easy to stumble across for even a rookie agent. One plan failed spectacularly already, but a stronger and more credible one is being planned as we speak. A few agents are undercover as a part of the cell planning the attack, see Operation Thin Ice.

E. The shrinking of Troy Agency budgets due to dwindling supplies of Dust allocated for sale has greatly lessened the Agency’s ability to maneuver events in our favor. Locating and securing additional Dust reserves is of critical importance to the continued existence of our operation. Our ability to exert power on the Moon dwindles by the month, held on at this time by a skeleton crew of agents.

F. The                                   Alaska Protocol

Discovery. An Agent present on the Duke spacefaring vessel “Nightfall” aided in the scattering of Dust caches throughout the solar system. Recovering these caches is a top priority.

G. The IFR’s presence on the moon and success with live-streamed propaganda has been effective at uniting Moonborn, Duke, and Soviet citizens and making Earth citizens sympathetic to their causes.

More to Come

Promise the Moon is fully playable, but you can consider it an ashcan at this time. Any and all feedback, play reports, or even hacks would be wonderful to see.
